I had the opportunity to play with the new medium format Fujifilm GFX 50S in the studio and take home some RAW files, so I thought I’d share some quick initial impressions and images.
- Shooting with medium format at this size, weight and ergonomics was an amazing experience. The menus and controls are straight off of the smaller X series cameras so the learning curve was simple.
- Contrast detect auto-focus worked surprisingly fast, much faster than I was anticipating and was always accurate (another benefit of shooting without a mirror).
- The detail and depth of field you get from medium format and this resolution was noticeable right away. The electronic viewfinder is large and fast, even with fast AF on (which warns might degrade EVF performance).
